Donald Nelson Swofford, a loving husband, father and grandfather entered his heavenly home on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the age of 74. Nelson was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was the son of the late William Gilbert Swofford and the late Modeen Jamelle Goode Swofford.
Nelson served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps as a First Lieutenant and a naval aviator. He was a graduate of Charleston Southern University and was also a retired financial advisor. Even though his successful career brought him great joy, the job he loved the most was being a husband, father and grandfather. He was a devout Christian and a member of the Upstate Church Haywood. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by everyone who has had the pleasure of knowing him.
Left to cherish Nelson’s many memories are his loving wife of 54 years: Connie Swofford; his two sons and daughters-in-law: Aubrey Jenson and Theresa Swofford, and William David and Meghann Swofford; four grandchildren: Will Swofford, Ben Swofford, Claire Swofford and Henry Swofford; and a sister: Cynthia Ann Leverette (Michael).
