Donald Mahaffey

Donald Coan "Donnie" Mahaffey, 83, of Greer, SC, died Saturday, April 23, 2016 at his home. Born May 26, 1932, in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Lewis Arthur Mahaffey, Sr. and Lillie Gowan Mahaffey. Mr. Mahaffey was the owner of The Mahaffey Insurance Agency and previously worked for 20 years at Spartanburg Herald-Journal in the Composing Room. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School in the youth department for many years. He loved playing golf, fishing, traveling and growing tomatoes. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Westmoreland Mahaffey, 10 nieces and nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews, and 13 great-great nieces and nephews and they were all very special to him. He was predeceased by a son, Donald Coan Mahaffey, Jr. and siblings, Evelyn Mahaffey, Julia Mahaffey, Margaret M. Calvert, Lewis A. Mahaffey, Jr., Harry D. Mahaffey, and Jack L. Mahaffey, and a niece, Lindy Kloskey, and a great niece, Sarah Evelyn Parris. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at Green Street Baptist Church, 446 Brawley Street, Spartanburg, SC, conducted by the Rev. Elliott Hamrick and the Rev. Larry Fleming.
