Donald Elliott

Donald "Don" Lee Elliott, 81, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, August 13, 2018, at Pacifica Skylyn-Spartanburg. Born January 1, 1937, in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Julius LaPrelle Elliott and Sidney Leon McMillan Elliott. A graduate of Pine Street School, Jenkins Jr. High School, and Spartanburg High School, Mr. Elliott was also a graduate of Wofford College and attended the University of NC at Chapel Hill after receiving a Mathematics Fellowship. He lettered in football at Jenkins Jr. High School, football and baseball at Spartanburg High School, and diving at Wofford College. He was an industrial engineer, retiring from Milliken & Co. after over 40 years of service. Don was a longtime member of Fernwood Baptist Church, a former Sunday School teacher, and enjoyed being the family genealogist. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and was a Boy Scout as well as the first Cubmaster of Boy Scout Troop #108. Survivors include his wife, Dawn Hill Elliott; children, Beth Elliott Thomas (Alvis P.) of Boiling Springs, SC, Alice Elliott Scoggins (Steve B.) and Marcus Quitman Elliott (Cathy A.), all of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Parkin Thomas of Charleston, SC, Aimee Powell (Corey) of Inman, SC, Allie Thomas, John Thomas, and Sarah Scoggins, all of Boiling Springs, SC, Matthew Scoggins of Columbia, SC, Caitlin Wilson (Chip) of Greer, SC, and Marcus Elliott (Meg) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; five great-grandchildren; and brother, Dr. Max L. Elliott (Melissa S.) of La Jolla, CA. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 26, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright. Visitation will follow the service at the Chapel. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John Q.
