Derrel Wayne Timmons, 70, best friend and loving husband for 47 years of Joy Otts Timmons, passed away December 19, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center after a long illness. Native of Spartanburg, SC, Wayne was born June 9, 1955; he was the son of the late J.C. and Ruby Moore Timmons.
Wayne graduated Dorman High School in 1974, then went on to serve in the United States Air Force from 1975-1976. He then began his career at Spartanburg Medical Center where he worked for 40 years as a locksmith maintenance mechanic. He was a long-time member of the Arcadia Masonic Lodge and Hejaz Shriners, and inactive member First Baptist North Spartanburg.
In addition to his wife Joy, Wayne is survived by his brother Gene (Darlene), sister Ann Sawyer, sister-in-law Bobbie Timmons, special brothers Mike Linder and Willie Sims, his godchildren Kelly & Travis Stafford of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Kristen & Ben Sullivan of Roswell, GA; Wayne is survived by nine nieces and nephews as well as 12 great-nieces & great-nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Sue Hill, brothers James and David, brothers-in-law, James Sawyer, Sr. and Jerry Hill, Sr.; and sister-in-law Anne Otts.
Family to receive friends, 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM, Monday, December 22, 2025, Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 1:00 PM, services to be conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Cash, and assisted by Wayne's cousins Danny and Paula Hipp; niece, Jennifer Earle, and nephew, Eric Timmons. Burial will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Henry Boyter Jr., James Bryant, Allen Johnston, Mike Linder, James Sawyer Jr., Chris, Chuck, and Eric Timmons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Hejaz Shrine Circus Committee members.
Flowers are appreciated or donations may be made in Wayne’s memory to Shriners Hospital for Children 950 W. Faris Rd., Greenville, SC 29605.
Joy would like to thank Wayne's hospital family at Spartanburg Medical Center for depending on him for 40 years & recently for their compassionate care during this last illness, especially the ICU critical care 5-Heart, and Emergency Center physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, and laboratory staff.
Special thank you to Family Medicine residents and attending physicians, especially Dr. Mark Godenick, who was always available whenever needed. Joy also would like to thank, Physical Rehab & Wellness Center for taking care of Wayne during his last four admissions
