Dannie Likes

Dannie Curry Likes, 88, of 250 Hollis Drive, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at RoseCrest Healthcare Center. Born January 21, 1921, in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of the late J. B. and Lucille Sumner Curry and the wife of 58 years to the late Howard Huffman Likes whom she married August 27, 1938. She graduated from high school in Milledgeville, GA, and attended Palm Beach Junior College. For 35 years she and her husband owned an auto appraisal firm in West Palm Beach, FL. Upon their retirement they moved to Asheville, NC; and after the death of her husband, she moved to Spartanburg to be with her son and family. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church of Spartanburg. Her many hobbies included knitting, basket making, jewelry making, rug making, quilting, sewing, needlepoint, and she was an artist who painted many still-lifes. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Likes Strickland and her husband Lonnie of Great Falls, MT; her son, Howard Huffman Likes, Jr. and his wife Janice of Spartanburg; her sister, Lawanda Brogden of Columbia; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and her loving canine companion, Logan. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Converse Baptist Church, 325 Main Street, Converse, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Godfrey. Visitation will be at the Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303; to RoseCrest Retirement Center, 200 Fortress Drive, Inman, SC 29349; or to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
