Cromer Rector Parton, Jr., affectionately known as “JR”, was born on January 14, 1929 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He left this world on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in Cowpens, South Carolina with family by his side, leaving behind a legacy of devotion, family and service.
Throughout his life, Cromer dedicated himself to his work as a Supervisor in textile mills, most notably for Dan River Mills and Hamrick Mills. His commitment to his career exemplified his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility, traits he carried into every aspect of his life.
JR was one of eleven siblings born to the late Cromer R. Parton Sr. and Callie Hannah Parton. He cherished time spent with his family and was a man who thrived outdoors. His passions included hunting, fishing, golfing and tending to his yard. These activities not only brought him joy but also created lasting memories with those he loved.
A devout Christian, JR’s faith played a central role in shaping his character and actions. He was a long-time member of Horton Memorial Church and Broad River Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Choir Director. His leadership in the church reflected his dedication to living out his faith in the service to others.
JR is survived by his loving family, including two sons, John Parton (Meryl) of Spartanburg, and David Parton (Libby) of Rutherfordton, NC and a daughter, Elaine Watkins (Steve) of Murrells Inlet, SC, along with fourteen grandchildren and many great and great-great- grandchildren. He shared a close bond with his sister, Barbara Jean Sherbert, formerly of Roebuck, and was blessed with a large extended family.
In addition to his parents, JR was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn in 2023, sons, Alan Wayne Parton, Terry Lee Parton, Charles Richard Parton and nine siblings.
The family will receive friends at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307 on Friday, August 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. A graveside service will take place at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM with Rev. Preston Edmunds officiating.
Mr. Parton, will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for the loving impact he had on his family and community. His spirit of service and deep-rooted faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
