Crawford Miller

Crawford Lee Miller, 92, of Walnut Grove, SC passed away on September 27, 2022. He was born in Walnut Grove, SC on June 12, 1930, to the late Crawford Augustine and Annabelle Arnold Miller and was husband to the late Joanne Smith Miller of Glenn Springs, SC.

Crawford was a dairy and row crop farmer as a young man. Seeking to better provide for his family, he enrolled in a correspondence machining and tooling course and went to work as a machinist for Milliken & Company. There he was valued for his ability to bring intricate ideas from blueprints to reality. He retired from Milliken in 1995 after more than thirty years of service.

Crawford was devoted to his church, Mt. Calvary Presbyterian. As an Elder for many years, he was especially concerned for the young men called to minister to the youth and their families. Some of these men have gone on to pastor their own flocks with gratitude for Crawford’s kind influence.

Survivors include his son, Marcus Lee Miller (Ann) of Lexington, SC; granddaughters, Martha Smith Benefield (Hunter) of West Columbia, SC and Jessie Augusta Miller of Lexington, SC and currently residing in Franklin, TN; sisters, Doris Miller Hipp and Joan Miller Cogdill of Walnut Grove and sister-in-law Ann Martin Miller, also of Walnut Grove. Along with his parents and wife, Joanne, he was predeceased by a sister, Mary Miller Williams, and a brother, James Martin Miller.

Visitation will be 10:30-11:30 AM on Saturday, October 1, 2022, at Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church, 1399 Walnut Grove Road, Roebuck, SC 29376. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 noon at the church, conducted by The Rev. Richard M. Thomas. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
