Corazon Garcia Baquiran, a beacon of kindness and devotion whose life spanned nearly eight decades, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 10, 2026, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Born on July 20, 1946, in Marilao, Bulacan, Philippines, Corazon carried with her the warmth and resilience of her homeland throughout her remarkable journey. She was the daughter of the late Jesus De Vera Garcia and Ceferiana Raymundo Garcia of the Philippines.
From a young age, Corazon cultivated a spirit of generosity that blossomed across continents and communities. She earned a bachelor’s degree before dedicating over thirty years of her professional life to the jewelry department at JC Penney, where her meticulous attention to detail was matched only by her genuine compassion for those around her. But it was beyond the counters and showcases where her heart truly shone. In the 1980s, Corazon’s home became a sanctuary for newcomers from the Philippines—welcoming them with spirited dinner parties, offering not just a meal but a bridge to a new world in a foreign land.
Her love and dedication were the pillars of her character. Devoted to her husband, Reynaldo, throughout fifty-five years of marriage before his passing in 2023, she was a steadfast source of strength and comfort. She cherished deeply her three beloved sons—Luis Baquiran and his wife, Ellie of Roebuck, SC; Alfred Joseph Baquiran of Irmo, SC; and Mark Leslie Baquiran of Columbia, SC—and took immense pride in nurturing her two treasured grandchildren, Owen and Rachel Baquiran. Their lives were enriched by her nurturing hand and the stories she passed down with gentle pride.
Corazon’s passions extended beyond family and work into the simple pleasures that grounded her spirit. She found joy in gardening, the delicate nurturing of life and growth reflecting her own tenderness. Her kitchen was a haven where she lovingly prepared traditional Philippine cuisine, infusing every dish with the flavors of her heritage and care for family and friends. She also had a keen eye for antiques, collecting pieces that whispered stories of the past, much like the legacy she leaves behind.
Those who knew her remember Corazon for a nature devoted entirely to others, a heart that consistently sought the welfare of family, friends, and strangers alike before herself. She carried within her a rare blend of grace, humility, and sagacity that marked every chapter of her life.
In addition to her husband, Corazon was preceded in death by her father, Jesus De Vera Garcia, and her mother, Ceferiana Raymundo Garcia. Though they are no longer with us, their legacy lives on indelibly in her spirit and in the generations she so lovingly raised.
A visitation will be held on April 16, 2026, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., with Rosary prayers at 6:30pm at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, located at 2075 E Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A Funeral Mass celebrating her life will follow on April 17, 2026, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 161 N Dean Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
Corazon Garcia Baquiran’s life was a quiet symphony of care, devotion, and unyielding love—a legacy that will endure long in the hearts of those she touched. The garden of her life continues to bloom through the memories and lives of her sons, grandchildren, and all fortunate enough to have crossed her path.
