Clarence Crews Jr.

Clarence M. Crews, Jr, 78, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 17, 2022. Mr. Crews was born on October 10, 1943, in Yatesville, GA, he was the son of the late Clarence Mallory Crews and Etta Carreker Crews. He grew up in Georgia, graduating from Columbus High School and the University of Georgia, then he moved to Spartanburg, SC after graduating from college.

He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 56 years, Jane O’Daniel Crews, his daughter, Janine Crews Lanier (Louis) of Charlotte, NC, his son, Clarence David Crews of Boiling Springs, SC, and grandson, William Louis Lanier, sister, Sylvia Crews Graddy (Danny) of Fayettteville, GA, brother-in-law, George Reid O’Daniel, Jr (Christy) of Durham, NC, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mr. Crews had a successful career in accounting and finance. He worked for Firestone Steel, Spartanburg Steel, and Spartanburg Stainless Products for 33 years, advancing from an Accountant to Controller. He then worked for Stankiewicz International Corporation as Director of Finance for approximately 10 more years until his retirement.

A member of several professional organizations, including IMA (Institute of Management Accountants), he served as a past president for the Spartanburg Chapter and earned awards for the highest chapter standing in the Carolinas Council and received 16th place out of 300+ chapters nationwide.

A devoted husband and wonderful father, he loved spending time with his family. He was supportive of his children’s activities by being a mentor to the Scouting program, encouraging his son’s Eagle Scout award and encouraging his daughter’s love of playing the violin in the school orchestra. He loved his wife dearly and she was his best friend.

A longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Spartanburg, he served as an usher and in other capacities. He enjoyed gardening, grilling outside, and relaxing in his sunroom. He always had a smile and was friendly and approachable to everyone he met. He was a true gentleman.

Visitation will be at 6:00 - 7:30 pm on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the chapel. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
