HEADING: Charles William "Charlie" Jones DATELINE: Laurens, SC Charles William "Charlie" Jones, 74, of Laurens, SC, went home to Heaven to watch the Daytona 500 with his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt, Sr. Friday, February 19, 2016 at Laurens County Memorial Hospital. Born March 27, 1941 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late Willie and Lillie Bell Owens Jones. Mr. Jones was retired as a driver for Van Waters and Rogers who enjoyed gardening, and shooting pool. He was a major Dale Earnhart, Sr. fan and loved Nascar. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed the fellowship of his friends in Cross Hill, SC. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Carol Wiley Jones; sons, Wayne Jones (Pam) of Boiling Springs, SC; David Jones of Cross Hill, SC; granddaughters, Kelly Rochester (Richard) and Charlotte Gettys (David); grandsons, Lee Jones, Charles Jones, and Joseph Jones; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Vernon Jones of Westville, Indiana; Paul Jones of Clifton, SC; sisters, Lucille Jones and Doris Taylor of Spartanburg, SC. He was predeceased by his brother, Ernest Jones. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29303. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 24, 216 at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rex Keaton. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple United Methodist Church General Fund, 171 Watkins Court, Spartanburg, SC 29301.
