Charles Henry Finkelstein, 79, of Spartanburg, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on April 28, 1947, in Spartanburg, Charles spent his life in the community he loved and called home. He was the son of Jack and Jeannette Davidson Finkelstein, both of whom have preceded him in death.
Charles especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, Nancy Hughston, with whom he shared 41 wonderful years of marriage. Together they created a warm and loving home filled with family, laughter, and cherished pets who brought Charles endless joy throughout the years.
Charles had a deep appreciation for nature and wildlife conservation and was proud to be a founding member of the Upstate Chapter of Wildlife Action. His love for animals and the outdoors reflected the caring and compassionate way he lived his life. He found his greatest happiness spending quiet time at home with Nancy, family, and their beloved pets.
Charles retired from Companion Animal Clinic after 20 years of working along side his wife and thoroughly enjoyed the years that followed, especially the time spent relaxing at home. He will be remembered for his quick sense of humor, playful spirit, and ability to keep those around him laughing. Charles was always cutting up, bringing smiles to family gatherings and everyday moments alike.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Hughston; his son, Michael Finkelstein (Tricia); his daughters, Laura Allen (Josh) and Jessica Wright (Jake); and five beloved grandchildren: Walker Allen, Emerie and Sterling Finkelstein, and Hughston and Henry Wright.
He also leaves behind his cherished pets, Cooper, Oreo, Lizzie, and Tilly, who were treasured members of the family.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm, Thursday, May 14, 2026, at The J.F. Floyd Mortuary, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, May 15, 2026, in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 126 Fort Prince Rd., Wellford, SC 29385. Services will be conducted by Rabbi Andy Meyerson.
Charles will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unwavering devotion to his family, and love for animals and nature. His warmth and humor will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
