Catherian “Cathy” Gayle Cowart Goforth, 67, of Greenville, passed away on Friday afternoon, June 26, 2026, at St Francis Hospital-Downtown. Cathy was born on March 15, 1959, in Jonesville, LA, a daughter of the late Evelyn Alegria Smart Mason and Versie Jesse Cowart. She lived most of her life in Spartanburg before moving to Greenville to care for ailing family members.
Cathy worked as a General Manager in the restaurant industry and later worked in the Sports Ministry at First North Baptist Church in Spartanburg.
Fishing, traveling through the mountains, and gardening (especially her flowers) were some of her favorite hobbies. The one thing that brought the most joy to Cathy’s life was spending time with her family, creating special bonds with each of them.
Cathy is survived by her husband, David Allen Goforth; her daughters, Freedom Goforth Winstead (Mark) of Pacolet, SC and Jackie Goforth Stroupe (Dusty) of the home; her four grandchildren, August Allen Coker Boatman (Lauren), Molly McKinley Winstead, Emily Kate Winstead, and Gabriel Abraham Stroupe; her Pops, Robert Mason; and a sister, Mary Book of Louisiana.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 2, 2026, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel, 235 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC. 29306. A funeral service to celebrate and honor Cathy’s life will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, 2026, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Sean Rogers. The burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
