Caroline Virginia Cash

Caroline Virginia Howard Cash, 73, of Spartanburg, passed away Tuesday morning, June 3, 2025, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Caroline was born November 13, 1951, in Bethesda, MD, a daughter of the late Lottie Estelle Howard and Francis Leo Hutchinson. She was married to the late Vance Junior Cash, who passed away in 2011.

Caroline was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and attended Una First Free Will Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her flower gardens and loved all animals, but cats were her favorite.

She was a member of the American Transplant Recipient Association, having received a heart transplant 6 years ago.

Caroline is survived by her daughters, Debrah Lynn Mathis (Michael Mills) of Union Mills, NC and Dorothy Estelle Stanley (Bradford) of Pickens, SC; her son, Joseph Henry Chavis, Sr. (Michael Gwenn) of Spartanburg; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; her sister, Joanne Thompson of Spartanburg; and her brothers, Michael Hutchinson of Germany, Clarence Hutchinson of Thurmont, MD, and Kenneth Hutchinson of Spartanburg. Great joy was brought to Caroline’s life by her miniature poodles, Henry and Totter.

She was predeceased by siblings, Brenda Collins, Robert Huff and Francis Hutchinson, Jr.

The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Floyd’s North Church Street Chapel. A graveside to honor and celebrate Caroline’s life will be held 2:00 pm Monday, June 9, 2025, at Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by the Rev. Kenneth Cash.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Allies, 820 Gossett Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
