Carl Monroe Painter, 75, of Roebuck, SC, died Saturday, April 23, 2016 in Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care, surrounded by his loving family. Born March 13, 1941 in Greenville, SC and reared in Hendersonville, NC, he was the son of the late Festus Evan and Bertha Pressley Painter. Mr. Painter served in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He lived much of his life in Spartanburg where he worked in the retail industry, including produce manager for Community Cash Stores and prior to that as a manager of Family Dollar Stores. In retirement, he loved to play video games, watch good movies and sporting events, and attend area auctions where he would sell or volunteer to help out sellers and amassed a number of friends. Throughout his life, Carl loved golfing, fishing, bowling, shooting pool, and visiting the mountains. He remained an avid Tarheels fan. Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Martha Paslay Painter; two grown children from a previous marriage, Cheryl Tuckey of Lyman, SC and Raymond Carl Painter of North Carolina; four grandchildren; three nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie Fore and Jean Shippey. The family will receive friends to celebrate his life at the home of his brother-in-law, James B. Paslay at 803 Lucerne Drive in Spartanburg from 3:00 - 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 28, 2016. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Carl M.
