Bryant James Reeves, Jr.

July 16, 1945 — June 22, 2025

Boiling Springs, SC

Bryant James Reeves, Jr., 79, of Boiling Springs, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 22, 2025, surrounded by loved ones after a sudden illness.

He married the late Jeanette Doris Smith Reeves on March 25, 1972, in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Jeanette Reeves passed on December 13, 2017. They were married for 45 years.

Bryant was born in Dorchester, South Carolina, the son of the late Bryant James Reeves, Sr., and the late Minnie Fairey Berry Reeves.

Bryant was in the 1963 graduating class of St. George High School and the 1975 graduating class of the University of South Carolina-Spartanburg (now Upstate), where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, with the 336 Munitions Maintenance Squadron (USAFE), as a Nuclear Weapons Specialist in Germany. After graduating he poured his heart and soul into USC-Upstate for 30 plus years. Bryant created the student bookstore, coached the first baseball team, and was the head coffee maker for years.

Bryant was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Spartanburg, SC, where he was a member of the Craig Class, attended Men’s Breakfast every Friday, a member of the Finance Committee, and served as a Church Trustee. Bryant was the bookkeeper and treasurer for 22 years. Most importantly, he was the quality control officer for Sunday morning donuts. Of the 4 dozen, there was always one donut that went missing.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Bryant will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish Bryant’s memories are his children: Bridgette Reeves Fullington (Emory); Bryant James Reeves, III (Jennifer) and Jason Campbell Reeves (Patricia); grandchildren: Emory L. Fullington, IV (Kara), Sara Elizabeth Fullington (Jeremy Hunnicutt), Joshua Allen Brown, Lauren Elizabeth Brown, Benjamin Campbell Reeves (Caroline), Andrew Parker Reeves, Katherine Elizabeth Reeves, and Amelia Lane Reeves.

He will be forever remembered by his Apollo’s family, his Second Pres family, and his long time USC Upstate co-workers.

A Celebration of Life Gathering to honor Bryant’s life will be held Friday, July 11, 2025, at the Second Presbyterian Church, 438 North Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29303. Coffee and donuts will begin at 8:00 - 9:00 AM and an ice cream social at 2:30 - 3:30 PM. All of the events will be held in Price Hall.
