Betty Jean Cothran Brannon, lovingly known as “Mrs. B” passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at Rosecrest Community Retirement Home in Spartanburg. She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the late Willam Cothran and Ellie J. Rogers.
Betty was the proud owner of Brannon’s Seafood Restaurant, where she shared her love of Southern cooking with her community. She was known for her kind heart; she found great joy in cooking for others. Above all, she loved God, she was a faithful member of Gaffney Free Will Baptist Church.
She is survived by her loving son, Garry Brannon and his wife, Sandra, of Gaffney; and her cherished grandchildren: Jamie Leigh Brannon (Luke McClary), Megan Elizabeth Brannon (Robert Koffler), Elayne Brannon Tate (Bryan), and Tony Mabry (Jennifer); her five great-grandchildren: Sophia Koffler, Lorelei Koffler, Ezra McClary, Josh Tate (Leigh), and Bryanna Tate Walker (Brandon); and two great-great-grandchildren, Cash Walker and Liberty Edwards. Her grandchildren held a very special place in her heart.
Also surviving are her daughter-in-law, Janis Brannon, and her siblings, Sandy Sellers, Nan Cody, and Jim McGraw. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Lee Brannon; her son, Rick Brannon; and her stepfather, Earl McGraw.
Mrs. Brannon will be remembered for her warm spirit, her love for family, and the many lives she touched through her cooking and kindness.
A funeral service to honor Betty’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main St, Spartanburg, SC 29307 with Rev. Chuck Thornton officiating the service. The family will receive friends prior to the service at 12:00 PM. The burial will follow the service in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
