Betty Anderson

Betty Mason Anderson, 86, loving wife of 40 years to the late Vernon Brockman (Brock) Anderson, died Friday, December 15, 2017, at White Oak Estates in Spartanburg. Born September 17, 1931, in Glendale, SC, she was the daughter of the late Elmo Mason and Lucille Mason Gibson (James). She attended Cecil's Business College and Spartanburg Methodist College. She began working in 1955 with her husband at Spartanburg Refrigeration and completed her work career at Atherton Electric after 25 years of service. Betty was a longtime member of Nazareth Presbyterian Church and especially enjoyed activities with her friends in the Friendship Club. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She always put her family's needs above her own. She had a generous, loving spirit and a smile that would warm your heart. Even in her declining health, her care and concern for others was expressed. She enjoyed family vacations at the beach, cooking, and spending time with her cats. She was a lover of all creatures great and small. Survivors include her daughters, Karen A. Cannon (Andrew) of Spartanburg, SC and G. Sheryl Anderson of Moore, SC; granddaughter, J. Colleen Cannon of Charleston, SC; brother, James L. Gibson (Sylvia) of Ravenal, SC; sisters-in law, Patricia A. Merry and Ethel Anderson; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Brenda and Frank Griffin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 19, 2017, at Nazareth Presbyterian Church, by the Rev. Julie Schaaf and Chaplain Andrew Fischer. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the burial service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nazareth Presbyterian Church, 680 Nazareth Church Road, Moore, SC 29369; or Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family is grateful to the staff of Comfort Keepers and White Oak Estates for their loving care of "Miss Betty" during the past few years.
