Bertil “Bert” William Rolander, 97, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Summit Hills.  Born December 7, 1925, in Jamestown, New York, he was a son of the late Ragner Peter and Lydia Liedblad Rolander and husband of the late Clare Barbara Donner Rolander for 66 years.

 

Bert was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served in WWII.  He retired after 25 years of service from The Federal Bureau of Investigations as a Special Agent.  He was a former state trooper with the New York State Police 7 years prior to becoming an FBI Special Agent.  He was a graduate of the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York.  He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, past commander of the American Legion FBI Post 56, past Southeast Regional vice-president for The Society of Former Special Agents of the FBI, and a volunteer for Mobile Meals and longtime member of the Spartanburg Lions Club.  Bert was proud to be an American of Swedish descent.

 

Survivors are a daughter, Renee R. Douglass (Walter) of Spartanburg; sons, Kevin C. Rolander of Spartanburg, Brett P. Rolander (Brenda) of Springfield, VA, and Dana E. Rolander (Missy) of Phoenix, AR; a daughter-in-law, Anne W. Rolander of Modest Town, VA; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.  Bert was predeceased by a son, Barry Rolander, daughter-in-law, Nancy Rolander and brother, Herbert Charles Rolander.

 

The Catholic Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 1, 2023, 10:00 AM, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 290 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29302, conducted by The Rev. David R. Whitman.  Burial with full military rights by American Legion Post #28 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC, 29307.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals, P.O. Box 461, Spartanburg, SC, 29304 or online www.mobile-meals.org/donate.
