Bell Chyleen Gilmer Fowler

August 2, 1945 — October 26, 2023

Spartanburg

Bell “Chyleen” Fowler, 78, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at her home.

She was born on August 2, 1945, in Spartanburg, SC to her late parents, Robert and Myrtle Gilmer. A woman of deep faith, Chyleen was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she sang like an angel in the choir and served as church treasurer.

Family had a special place in Chyleen’s life where she was known simply as, “Granny”, a name that she cherished. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Robert Fowler, with whom she shared a love that stood the test of time. Survivors also include a son, Robbie (Tabitha) Fowler; grandchildren Ashley Arrowood, Brandon (Cindy) Satterfield, Ryan, and Brent Fowler. Her family tree branched with three great-grandchildren, Mason McCann, Harper Arrowood and Bristol Satterfield.

Chyleen was fortunate enough to grow up with many siblings which included Marchellon Burnett, Sally Grice, and Rhonda Horne. She is predeceased by her beloved daughter, Dana Satterfield, as well siblings, Tommy Gilmer and Kay Dillard.

Chyleen’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel on East Main Street in Spartanburg, SC. Visitation will take place from 12:00 – 12:45 pm, followed by the funeral service at 1:00. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, immediately following the service, officiated by Pastor Wayne Major.

While we mourn the loss of a wife, mother, and grandmother, our family would like to recognize Spartanburg Regional Hospice, for the compassionate care that was showered over us.

The family would also like to acknowledge her niece, Linda McClure for her guidance and support during the past few weeks. Chyleen was able to sing Amazing Grace with Linda and her great-grandson, as he played the piano. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts with the legacy she leaves behind.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to St. Andrew’s UMC.
