Barbara Newberry

Barbara Elizabeth Bogar Newberry, 80, of Spartanburg, SC, died Tuesday, February 2, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born July 27, 1935, in McKeesport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth Dokus Bogar. Mrs. Newberry loved her church and was very proud of her Hungarian heritage. A graduate of Nasson College in Maine, she retired as a High School teacher after 40 years of service and was also a family and marriage therapist as well as former High School counselor. A faithful member of Central United Methodist Church, she was very involved as a former choir and handbell choir member as well as Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) leader. Surviving are her husband, Clyde Kenneth Newberry; daughter, Alexandra Oswald of Stamford, CT; stepson, John Newberry (Anna) of Salem, IN; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 11:15 AM - 12:45 PM Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Central United Methodist Church Family Life Center. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tom Norrell.
