Barbara Creasman Farmer, 96, of Spartanburg, passed away Sunday morning, July 20, 2025. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Barbara was born July 24, 1928, in Gastonia, NC, a daughter of the late Allen G. and Hattie Blalock Creasman. She was married to the late John Irby Farmer, Jr.
Barbara was a graduate of Gastonia High School and a 1949 graduate of the Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she was employed by Spartanburg General Hospital and Dr. A.K. Temples prior to a long career as an Occupational Health nurse for Beaumont Mill and Startex Mill. She retired in 1990 after 41 years of loyal service. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church since 1949, where she served as a Sunday School teacher, sang in the choir, and anywhere else she was asked to serve. She also participated is several medical mission trips to St. Kitts and Guatemala.
She is survived by her sister, Jane Peninger of Gastonia, NC; her sons, John I. “Jackie” Farmer, III (Lee) of Asheville, NC, Steven A. Farmer (Sheila) of Spartanburg, and J. Gary Farmer of Waynesville, NC; 5 grandchildren, Jason Farmer, Jessica Fleming, Katy Lee, Kristi Hoffmaster, and Jennifer Melton; and 12 great-grandchildren, Madeline, Lydia, Mason, Steven, Meredith, Noah, Jack, Shepherd, Camille, Ayden, JW and Anna. Along with her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her brother, Arthur D. Creasman.
The family will receive friends from 12:00-12:45 pm Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A service to honor and celebrate Barbara’s life will follow at 1:00 pm Thursday, in the chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Schuyler Peterson. Nightingale Tribute and Final Call for Duty will be performed by the Nurses Honor Guard of South Carolina. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307.
