Ann Marie Jones, 79, of Chesnee, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born on August 9, 1945, in Newark, New Jersey, Ann was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph Peter Matuza and Anna Semanek Matuza. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald William Jones.
Ann's life was marked by her unwavering love and kindness towards everyone she encountered. The Matuza family often traveled between Newark and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania to visit family and many cousins. As children, Ann and her sister visited New York City for shopping and shows, which sparked a lifelong love of the theater and movies. Ann graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in 1963 and went on to work as a personal banker. In 1967, she married Donald, and together they moved to Chesnee, South Carolina, following her parents. Their son, Brad Allen Jones, born in 1979, was the light of their lives.
A devoted member of St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church, Ann treasured the moments spent with her family and friends. After losing Donald, she dedicated herself to being a loving mother, actively participating in school outings and activities with Brad and his classmates. She was also a committed caregiver to her parents and great aunt while raising her son. Ann found joy in summer vacations with her son and his family, and she had a special place in her heart for her many beloved pets, especially Coco, who stayed by her side in her final days.
Ann leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Brad Alan and Summer Jones; her grandson, Ethan Jones; her sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Ralph Hill; her niece and nephews, Carie Hill, Gary Criscione and Randy Hill, along with his wife Amy; and a great niece and two great nephews, Lauren Hill, Matthew Hill, and Carter Hill.
The family will receive friends between 1:30 pm to 2:20 pm on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Floyd Greenlawn Chapel, followed by a service at 2:30 pm to honor Ann’s life and a committal service at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
Ann never met a person who she didn’t call a friend and would do all she could to help those in need. Her legacy will live on in all of her family and friends as we strive to embrace the world as Ann did.
