Alvin Dean Dill of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at the age of 91.
Alvin was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, the son of the late James Lester Dill and the late Nannie Jane Watson Dill. He was also preceded in death by his wife: Mary Lou Grant Dill; and his sister: Vonda Lee Waldrop.
Alvin served his country in the United Staes Navy during the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his honorable discharge he earned an accounting degree from Robinson Business School. He was a retired foreman with Leigh Fiber. After his retirement, he worked part time at a Recycling Center. He was rooted deep into his faith and served as a deacon for over forty years. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was also a member of Woodman of The World. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by his family.
Left to cherish his memories are his son: Rev. Robin Dill; his daughter: Phyllis Owens (Eddie); seven grandchildren: Christopher, Crystal, Matthew, Brooke, Eddie, Scott, and Amanda; great grandchildren: Mary, Charli, Mavrick, Abigail, Adyson, Finleigh, Jordan, Braylee, Barry, and Anakin; one precious great-great grandchild: Braxton. A nephew: Steve Waldrop also survives.
The family will receive friends between 11:00 - 12:45 on Friday, January 2, 2026, PM at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. The funeral service will start at 1:00 PM following the visitation with Bishop David Carter, Rev. Monty King, and Rev. Al James officiating the service. Alvin will be laid to rest in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens following the funeral service,
Alvin’s memories will continue to live in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
