Albert Simmons

January 31, 1933 — March 12, 2022

Albert A. Simmons, 89, of Spartanburg, SC died Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 31, 1933 in Spartanburg, SC, he was the son of the late James Cyrus and Hattie Pearl Dobson Simmons and was married for 65 years to the late Myrtle “Gayle” Woody Simmons.

Mr. Simmons was a Class of 1953 graduate of Fairforest High School and served in the U.S. Army 8th Infantry Division Service Company from 1953 – 1955 in Ulm, Germany. He served as secretary of the S.J.W. D. Water District from 1980 – 2008. Albert retired from Mayfair Mills in 1995. He was an active member of Fairforest Baptist Church. Albert was a God-fearing man who loved his family and friends who always loved to share in a good conversation and a laugh. He will be missed by all.

Survivors include his daughter, Connie S. Wilson (Lamar) of Spartanburg, SC; his grandchildren, Danielle Holt (Isaac) of Atlanta, GA, Graylan “Cole” Wilson of Spartanburg, SC, and Rebecca Martin (Thomas, Jr.) of Laurens, SC; his sister, Lillian Riddle of Spartanburg, SC; daughter-in-law, Erlene Simmons of Gray Court, SC. He was also predeceased by his son, Curtis R. Simmons, and his siblings, Lula Mae Simmons, Margaret Simmons, Hugh Simmons, Herbert Simmons, Carl Simmons, Norman Simmons, W.B. Simmons and Fred Simmons.

A Graveside service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, March 17, 2022 in Fairforest Baptist Church Cemetery, 115 Church Street, Fairforest, SC 29301, conducted by The Rev. Dr. James C. Hilton, with Military Rites provided by American Legion Post 28. Visitation will follow at the graveside.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Woodruff Manor and Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home for their loving care of Albert.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
