Albert J. Padgett

Albert J. Padgett, 85, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg. Albert was born on December 13, 1940, in Black Mountain, NC, and was a son of the late Allie and Dollie Tomberlin Padgett.

Albert was a graduate of Asheville-Buncombe Technical College and enjoyed a long and successful career in the freight industry in both sales and logistics. He was a longtime member of Evangel Cathedral in Spartanburg. During his years at Legacy Church in Spartanburg, he became known to his Men’s Group by the nickname “Good Al” as he was always grateful for his good life and his many blessings. Spending time with his family, grandchildren, and ‘great grands’ brought great joy to Albert’s life. Eating butter pecan ice cream with his family brought him even more joy!

Along with his parents, Albert was predeceased in 1999 by his first wife of almost 40 years, Kay Jouret Padgett, and his second wife, Jennie Lazenby Padgett in February of 2026; siblings, Trilby Blankenship, Camilla Burnette, and Robert Padgett; and a son-in-law, Freddie N. Jones, III.

Surviving are his daughters, Laurie P. Jones of Gaffney, SC, and Daphne P. DeShields (David) of Greenville, SC; his stepdaughter, Lisa R. Shehan (Rick) of Spartanburg, SC; 6 grandchildren, Anna Bridges (Jarrod), Brent Jones (Heather), Audrey Williams (Josh), Mihael DeShields (Elizabeth), Kaitlyn Horner (John) and Alyssa Bennett (Makenly); two step-grandchildren, Edward Shehan and Katherine Shehan (fiancé Riley Matthews); 12 great-grandchildren, Ali Bridges, Nora Jones, Walker Jones, Shepherd Williams, Westin Williams, Zachary DeShields, Henry DeShields, William DeShields, Riley DeShields, Robert Horner, Jack Horner and Liam Bennett, a sister, Mary Sneed of Black Mountain, NC; a sister-in-law, Juanita Padgett of Black Mountain, NC; and many other nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. A service to worship God and honor the life of Albert J. Padgett will follow at 11:00 a.m., in the Chapel, conducted by Pastor Jan King. The service of committal will be held at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, in the Padgett Family Cemetery, Hutchins Road, Black Mountain, NC 28711.

Albert’s family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff at Eden Terrace of Spartanburg and to the outstanding professionals with Family Hospice. The excellent care of these two groups provided great comfort to the Padgett family.
