William Maurice "Red" Loflin, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018. He was the husband of Sara Newman Loflin, and the son of the late William Carl and Annie Bell Eagle Loflin. Red was born in Salisbury, NC on June 17, 1928. Red retired from Southern Railway with 30 years of service and Spartanburg County Recycling Center with 19 years working at the Valley Falls, Lake Blalock, and Cooley Springs stations. He was a lifetime member of the Lone Oak Masonic Lodge No. 372, a veteran serving in the Merchant Marines at the end of World War II. Red was a member of United Baptist Church, formerly Haynes Baptist Church, where he was the teacher of his beloved Charlie Suddeth Fellowship Sunday School Class. In addition to his wife, Red is survived by his two sons, Wayne (Pauline) Loflin of Summerville, SC; Bryan Loflin of Boiling Springs, SC; and daughter, Margaret (Bruce) Carpenter of Fairbanks, AK; sister-in-law, Ruth Loflin; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Floyd Loflin and sister, Margaret Lancaster. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to United Baptist Church, 7319 Valley Falls Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
