Wade Zimmerman

October 30, 1933 — October 17, 2017

Wade Helton Zimmerman, 83, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born October 30, 1933, in Murphy, NC, he was the son of the late Fred and Mattie McClure Zimmerman. A U. S. Army Sergeant and veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Zimmerman was a graduate of NC State University and retired mechanical engineer. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, an avid gardener, and very involved with community service. He enjoyed tennis and golf and was a patriarch to a loving close family. He will be greatly missed by all that he has touched. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lenora Nye Zimmerman; children, Gina Zimmerman Morris (Rick) of Little River, SC, Lorie Zimmerman of Charlotte, NC, and Kevin Zimmerman (Mary) of Salisbury, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Harrell (Kelley) of Oak Ridge, TN, Lucas Harrell (Tiffany) of James Island, SC, and Jacob Harrell of Little River, SC; great-grandchildren, Lucy June and Ruby Wade; brother, Hoyt Zimmerman of Murphy, NC; and sisters, Pat Rabon (Joy) of Conway, SC and Kay Medford (Sam) of Conover, NC. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by the Rev. Rufus Chaneyworth and Mr. Josh Harrell. Visitation will follow at the Chapel. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304; or Southeastern Children's Home, PO Box 339, Duncan, SC 29334-0339.
