Thomas Vinyard

Thomas Everette Vinyard, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born January 10, 1928, in Gadsden, AL, he was the son of the late L. T. and Grace Dismukes Vinyard who died when he was very young and the late B. C. and Mary Kate Dismukes Morgan. A U. S. Navy veteran, Mr. Vinyard enjoyed playing golf, made nine hole-in-ones, and sponsored the Tommy Vinyard Golf Tournament. He was a volunteer fire fighter, Boy Scout Troop Commander, loved trout fishing, and also played semi-pro baseball for one year. He retired from Southern Railway and was a member of Gravely Memorial United Methodist Church. Survivors include his sons, Chris Vinyard (Pam) of Inman, SC and Terry Vinyard (Suzy) of Loudon, TN; grandchildren, Anna Vinyard of Spartanburg, SC, Abby Vinyard of New Bern, NC, Devon Dickson (Randall) and Chad Vinyard (Kayla), all of Murfreesboro, TN; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Betty Griffin and Audria Dean Lindsay. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Mary-Frances Mullinax and Dianne Hall. A graveside service, with military rites, will be conducted at 11:30 AM Saturday, December 16, 2017, in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by Chaplain Katie Harbin. Visitation will follow 1:00-4:00 PM at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Scott Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
