Sandra Mientka Yundt passed away December 9, 2017 in Spartanburg, South Carolina where she had resided since 2006. She was 70 years old. She was a loving mother and an encouraging parent to her daughter Bethany, nurturing high achievement, a strong work ethic and traditional Christian values. She had a charming personality and warm smile that complemented her strength and quiet determination. When younger she particularly enjoyed interpretive dance, the graceful movements of tai chi and an occasional round of tennis. In her later years she most enjoyed spending time with her three granddaughters. As a professional nutritionist and dietitian she brought a high level of energy and dedication to her fellow professionals and compassion, caring and always a smile to her patients. Mrs. Yundt was responsible for nutritional care of patients as a dietitian at the Kaiser Medical Center, San Jose, California, and Arlington Hospital in northern Virginia. While living in Virginia she became an independent consulting clinical nutritionist for several physicians and specialized in providing medical nutrition therapy for patients with advanced cancer and kidney disease. Born in Northampton, Massachusetts on December 3, 1947 she earned her Bachelor of Science degree from University of Massachusetts, Amherst after attending Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline, Massachusetts. She completed her professional internship at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center in 1973 and became an active member of the American Dietetic Association. The daughter of the late Margaret L. Russell and late Edward J. Mientka of Amherst, Massachusetts, she leaves her loving husband of 47 years and daughter and their family: her husband Robert W. Yundt, Jr; her daughter Bethany Yundt Cobb and her husband Eric McShane Cobb and their daughters Sarah Marguerite (Maggie) Cobb, Bentley Miller Cobb, and Isabella (Bella) McShane Cobb; Edward J. Mientka (brother), his wife Karyn W. Mientka and their daughter Kristine (Kristie) Mientka; Shelley Anne Vickers (sister) and her husband Chris Vickers. Private services will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Advent in Spartanburg. The family suggests any contributions in memory of Sandra Yundt can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, online at nationalmssociety.org/Donate.
