Pauline Hixson

Pauline Evelyn Allison Hixson, 87, of Madison, TN and formerly of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018. Born February 15, 1931, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Allison and Carrie Hammett Allison and the widow of Rev. Clarence Hixson (1990). A graduate of Spartan High School, Pauline resided in Spartanburg until 1967 and was employed with Smith-Outz Drug Company from 1961-1967. A long-standing member of the Church of God, Cleveland, TN, Pauline and her husband, Rev. Hixson, pastored churches in Kansas, Montana, and New Mexico from 1967 until his death in 1990. She was the honored recipient of the Mother of the Year Award at Hodges Church of God where she was a faithful member, Sunday School Teacher, and sang in the church choir for nearly 20 years. She loved to play the piano and organ as well as teach music to students in the communities where she and her husband served. She also played the organ for the New Mexico State Camp Meetings for 17 years. Pauline taught her granddaughter, Erin, at a very early age to play piano. Since that time, Erin has won many awards, played for the Lee University Lee Singers and is currently a music producer. Pauline loved to read historic novels while sitting on the beach and watching ships on the ocean. One day, her dream came true and she was able to take a cruise on the ocean and read her novel while sailing on a ship. Survivors include her daughters, Joyce Hixson Sanders (Vernie) of Centerville, TN, Karen Hixson Miller (Mark) of Los Alamos, NM, and Marcia Hixson Durkee (Mark) of Akron, OH; grandchildren, Heather Sanders Hyde of Adams, TN, Allison Sanders Coffey and Kristin Sanders Holt (Daniel), all of Centerville, TN, Erin Billings of Cincinnati, OH, Mathew Miller of Los Alamos, NM, Reuben Durkee and Joseph Durkee, both of Akron, OH; great-grandchildren, Toby L. Hyde, Wesley T. Hyde, and Emilie Gracelyn Hyde of Adams, TN, Chloe Holt, Morgan Holt, and James Ryan Sanders Coffey, all of Centerville, TN; brothers, Mac Allison of Spartanburg, SC and Jimmy R. Allison of Campobello, SC; sister, Francis Allison Johnson of Moore, SC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a sister, Betty Ballew of Inman, SC. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, by The Rev. Paul Allison and The Rev. Roger Allison. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park, 1955 Cannons Campground Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
