Nancy Chastain

Nancy Shropshire Chastain, 82, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016, at her home surrounded by friends and family. Born April 17, 1934 in Clifton, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rollie D. Shropshire Sr. and May Gray Shropshire. She was the widow of Cecil Edward Chastain, having been happily married for 57 years. A graduate of Cowpens High School, Nancy was retired and a homemaker. She was a member of River Hills Baptist Church. She was Mama Nancy to many and a wonderful friend to all who knew her. Survivors include her daughter, Joy Jay (Graylin) of Columbia, SC; grandchildren, Trevor Jay (Kara) of Australia and Ashleen Jay (fiancé, Aaron Scheuer) of Columbia, SC; one sister, Alice Black Thompson of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, David Y. Shropshire of Canton, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sons, Russell Edward Chastain and David Cecil Chastain; and five siblings. Visitation will be 1:30 - 2:45 PM Saturday, August 20, 2016, at River Hills Baptist Church. A memorial service honoring her life will follow at 3:00 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev.
