Mary Lozynski

July 6, 1931 — January 14, 2019

"Not to worry! I'm just gone to God." Mary Lou Sweat Lozynski, 87, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away Monday, January 14, 2019 after a brief illness and nearly five years of giving Alzheimer's a really good run for its money. Born July 6, 1931, in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Izzie Lamar Sweat and Hettie Lucille Hendrix Sweat and spent her formative years in Greenville and Anderson, SC as well as Brevard, NC. At Brevard High School, she was not only the school's majorette, but was also elected the first "Huddle Queen" in 1948. She married Edward Lozynski in 1952 and thanks to the U. S. Air Force, she saw enough of the world to suit her (Guam, Louisiana, and Wisconsin) until she returned to the Upstate in 1963, first to Greenville, then Anderson and finally landing in Spartanburg in 1967. By 1970, she found herself raising six children by herself. Mary went to work for and flourished at Cryovac in Duncan, first in the Quality Assurance Lab and eventually in Customer Service. She retired from the "Cryovac Family" in the mid 90's and went on to dabble in antiques and Shih Tzu puppies in retirement. Surviving are three sisters, Katherine Barnett and Marcie Bruce of Simpsonville, SC, and Miriam Lacey of Bakersfield, CA; five children, Stuart McClure (Lynn) of Spartanburg, SC, Mark Lozynski of Kissimmee, FL, Amy Henderson of Inman, SC, John Lozynski (Lynn) of Wellford, SC, and Shannon Lozynski (Lyn) of Spartanburg, SC; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two children, Andrew Lozynski, age 5, in 1963, and her beloved daughter, Joan Marie Lozynski Black in 1990. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held for family and close friends at a date to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 901 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302; or Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303. The family wishes to convey our sincere appreciation to the staff and caregivers at The Waterford at Dillon Pointe-Spartanburg and Lake Emory Post Acute Care-Inman for the love and outstanding care given our mother in her last years.
