Lanie Kabrick

September 12, 1927 — March 9, 2018

Lanie Matthews Kabrick passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2018 while holding her son's hand. While she was sad to leave her family and wonderful friends, especially those here in Spartanburg, she was very much looking forward to being reunited with her loving husband, Raymond Kabrick, her siblings, Jane Clarke, Thomas Matthews and Alice Ray Stevens, and her loving parents Elizabeth and Thomas Matthews and being with her Savior Jesus Christ. She leaves behind her son, Randy Kabrick, his wife Millie, their children, Randolph Kabrick, Rawley Kabrick, Erin Kabrick and her fiancé, Casey Smith; her daughter, Delanie Kabrick Wise and her husband William Wise, their children, Josh Wise and his wife Erin Wise, Elise Wise, Rob Wise and his wife Yelena Wise, and four great grandchildren, Nina, Meron, Matthew, and Zoey Wise. Lanie was born on the family farm located in Brunswick County, Virginia in 1927. She grew up surrounded and supported by a large extended family. After college she taught school at the same one room school house that she attended as a child. Her career in teaching didn't last long because Ray Kabrick, "the most handsome man in the county", fell in love with her and they were married in 1951. As well as being a loving wife and mother, Lanie became a relocation expert having moved more than 20 times including El Salvador, Iraq, Virginia, West Virginia, Iowa, South Dakota, Colorado, Washington, North Carolina and Washington. DC. In 1987, Ray and Lanie made their last move to Spartanburg, South Carolina. Ray passed away in 1995. Lanie carried on. As a career volunteer, she was active at First Presbyterian Church, delivered and packaged meals for Mobile Meals, and worked tirelessly in the kitchen at the Living Waters Ministry retreat near Asheville. Lanie was happiest having friends and family around her dining room table. We will miss her yummy soups, corn bread and peach cobbler. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 17, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, 393 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29302, with The Rev. Joanne Hull officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Service, PO Box 461, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The J. F.
