Gay Mcbride

Minnie Gay Ratliff McBride, 96, of Spartanburg, SC, passed away following a brief illness, at Spartanburg Medical Center on Saturday, March 10, 2018. She was born on March 16, 1921 in Pikeville, Kentucky to the late Blanche and Gertie Ratliff. She moved to Spartanburg when she was five years old and graduated from Spartanburg High School. She was married for 71 years to her late loving husband, Roy William McBride. Gay was a great homemaker and cook. She was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church; she enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher. She volunteered for decades making the crafts put on Mobile Meals trays for holidays. She was a member of Lillie Knox Garden Club and was a past president. She enjoyed spending time with her family at Lake Lure, Charleston and Holiday, Florida. She enjoyed her granddaughter, which was the apple of her eye, and her great-granddaughters. She was a gentle, kind lady that never said an unkind word about anyone. Surviving are her loving children, Brenda M. Goforth of Spartanburg and son Jody Edwin McBride of Holiday, Florida; granddaughter, Tamara Brown (Taylor) and great-granddaughters, McKenna and Kaia Brown, all of Moore, SC; one brother, Walter Ratliff (Anne); and sister-in-law, Ginny Ratliff, all of Spartanburg, SC; nieces and nephews, Larry Zimmerman, Johnny Ratliff, Rocky Ratliff, Beth Fenner, and Eva Jane Brooks, all of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother. A special thank you to her best friends, that were also her relatives, Anne and Walt Ratliff and Ginny Ratliff. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, March 14, 2018, at Ben Avon United Methodist Church, with funeral services following at 3:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Jones Brewer. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
