Evalyn Coad

June 13, 1930 — November 29, 2020

Mrs. Evalyn Wright Coad passed into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 29, 2020. She was born on June 13, 1930 near Woodville, Georgia. Her parents were Arthur Grantly and Margie Elrod Wright. Evalyn was the youngest and last survivor of 12 children. She joined the Baptist Church and played basketball on her high school basketball team. Evalyn attended the University of Georgia and a business school. She married James "Jim" Coad, Jr., on September 18, 1948. They were married for 72 years and had a wonderful family life. Their children are Margie Kathryn (Phillip) Capps, Rev. James "Jim" Coad III (Gala), Rev. John Arthur "Jac" Coad (Deborah), and Anne Elizabeth (Rev. Peter) Waid. They have 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Family was extremely important to Evalyn. She and Jim prayed every morning and/or evening, naming each child, grandchild, and great grandchild by name and specific concerns. She was very generous and donated to family on birthdays and other special days and to many Christian organizations. Evalyn was a supportive partner of her husband's pastoral ministries in Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, and North Carolina. She delighted in a missionary term in Mexico in which she began a flourishing Bible study correspondence program. After the children were older, Evalyn attended Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA, and completed her BA at the University of Georgia. She taught high school English in Due West, SC and in St. Louis, MO, while Jim earned a ThM degree at Covenant Theological Seminary. The Coads retired to an older home in Flat Rock, NC, which she lovingly renovated. Declining health caused them to move to independent living and later to assisted living in Spartanburg, SC. She was a faithful and enthusiastic member of Pinecrest ARP Church in Flat Rock, NC, and Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church ARP, in Spartanburg. A family only (due to Covid-19 restrictions) celebration service will be officiated by Rev. Boyce Wilson and Rev. Charles Evans and held at Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church ARP, in Spartanburg, SC, on December 9, 2020. Interment will follow at 3:30 PM at the Due West ARP Church Cemetery, 112 N. Main Street, Due West, SC 29639. All friends and family are welcome to attend the graveside service. The funeral service will be available for viewing after 12:00 PM on December 9, 2020 on the Skylyn Drive Presbyterian Church Facebook page. Memorials may be sent to, World Witness, 918 South Pleasantburg Drive, Suite 218, Greenville, SC 29607 and/or Lighthouse Baptist Church, Attention: Daxell Wells, 2918 SC Hwy 72E, Abbeville, SC 29620. Evalyn leaves a lasting legacy as a faithful and loving servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. Her children arise and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; But a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
