Eileen Ronat

Eileen Marilyn Genre Ronat, 94, of Lexington and formerly of Spartanburg, SC, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Lexington Extended Care. Born May 4, 1924, in rural Highland, IL, she was the daughter of Wilbur and Alice Genre. She graduated from Greenville High School, Greenville, IL, in 1942, and then worked as a clerk in the Bond County Selective Service Office and Greenville College for 2 ½ years. Eileen married Wilbur O. Ronat on October 14, 1944 in Greenville, IL. They moved to Buffalo, NY in 1946 after her husband's European tour of duty with the Army. She worked at First Federal Savings and Loan in Kenmore, NY for many years. In 1969, they moved to Spartanburg, SC, where she was the church secretary at Fernwood Baptist Church until her retirement in 1994. She loved children and worked in the nursery at Fernwood Baptist Church for many years. Throughout her life, music was very important. She played the piano, sang in church choirs, and played the handbells. Her greatest legacy is the powerful example of a faith lived in her home, her church, and in her work and social relationships. Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Ronat Dufour and husband, Philip, of Van Buren, ME, and Ruthellen Ronat West and husband, Alan, of Lexington, SC; one son, Andrew Ronat and wife, Gail, of Jumping Branch, WV; one sister, Vivian Justice of Valparaiso, FL; seven grandchildren, Joel Dufour, Amy Dufour Hebert, Sarah Dufour Brown, Bobby Ronat, Melinda Ronat Gunter, and Jessica and Roger West. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, Ariana Dufour, Henry, Sam and Louie Hebert, Quinn and Zachary Dufour, Kaitlyn Ronat and Cadence Gunter. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sisters, Dollora Bosche (2010) and Joyce Hayes (March 2018); and a grandson, Aaron Ronat Dufour (1978). Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 12, 2018, at Fernwood Baptist Church, 200 Fernwood Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Rev. Dr. P. Randall Wright. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Complex, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner's Hospital (Orthopaedics), 6977 Main Street, Houston, TX 77030; or a charity of one's choice.
