Edward Crook

January 28, 1932 — May 29, 2018

Ed Crook, 86, of Spartanburg, SC, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born January 28, 1932, in Union County, SC, he was the son of the late Rev. Cullen B. Crook and Merle Brakefield Crook. Ed was a graduate of North Greenville University and served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. Following his retirement from Barclays American Financial, Ed worked with Crook's Brass Refinishing for 25 years and part-time for The J. F. Floyd Mortuary. He was a member of First Baptist Church Spartanburg for 40 years and served several terms as Deacon. Ed was a member of the Greer Civitan Club and was named Civitan of the Year. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ed, is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; and his two sons, Jim (Jane) and Mike (Luanne). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Cullen, Brandon, Coleman, Grant, Michael, and Ivey; and one great-granddaughter, Safia Crook. He is also survived by a brother, LeGrand Crook of Greer, SC. He was predeceased by a grandson, Chadwick Crook. Visitation will be 10:00-10:45 AM Saturday, June 2, 2018, at First Baptist Church Spartanburg, 250 E. Main St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, with funeral services following at 11:00 AM, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Donald J. Wilton and The Rev. Seth Buckley. A private graveside service will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Foundation, PO Box 2624, Spartanburg, SC 29304. The family is at the home.
