Dewey Dean Halford, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, August 26, 2018, at his home. Born September 1, 1928, in Duncan, SC, he was the son of the late James Walter Halford and Emma Gibbs Halford and husband of the late Isabelle Fraser Halford. Mr. Halford was a U. S. Navy veteran, a Shriner, and retired from Southern Railway. He loved his family, to play golf, his dog, Fergo, and played baseball for the minor league of the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church for over 50 years and served on the vestry and as a church usher. Survivors include his daughter, Denise Watson; grandchildren, Dr. Paige Watson and Jonathan Watson, all of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Frances Eledge of Spartanburg, SC and Jerry Palmer of Ohio. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by two sisters and one brother. Visitation will be 2:00-2:45 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, with funeral services following at 3:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Rob Brown, The Rev. Mia McDowell, The Rev. Deacon Leslie Horvath, and The Rev. Deacon Pat Gotautas. Entombment, with military rites, will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Heritage Chapel Mausoleum, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
