Debbie Rice, 65, of Spartanburg, SC, died peacefully at her home, after a long illness, Friday, November 16, 2018. Born October 6, 1953 in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late Karolyn Williams Rice "Kay" and the late David Carroll Rice and the granddaughter of the late Honorable J. H. (Nub) Williams. Debbie was retired as Spartanburg County Director of Records Management, serving Spartanburg County for 28 years. She was active in public service and previously served on the board of directors for Greenville Chapter of ARMA (Association of Record Managers and Administrators), Piedmont Chapter of American Red Cross, Spartanburg Business and Professional Women, and Upstate Postal Customer Council. She also served as the Public Information Officer for Spartanburg County Emergency Management. In addition, she was an avid volunteer for Spartanburg Children's Shelter. Debbie was a member of Fernwood Baptist Church. She loved music, gardening, and her loyal dog, Spot. She is survived by her daughter, Maisie Rash (Michael Revis) of Spartanburg, SC; grandchildren, Bailey and Braydon Rash of Spartanburg, SC; sisters, Pauma Deaton and Tina Rice of Spartanburg, SC, and brother, Penn (Garry) Rice (Kathy) of Charleston, SC; three nieces, Summer Deaton (Richard Evans), Caitlyn Deaton, Maddie Evans of Spartanburg, SC; a nephew, David Rice of Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by a brother, Lee Rice and brother in law, Jimmy Deaton. A graveside service will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Road, Spartanburg, SC 29307, conducted by Chaplain Scott Linnerud. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries, 189 N. Forest Street, Spartanburg, SC 29301 or to The Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, SC 29303 or online at www.spartanburghumane.org. The family would like to extend a special appreciation to Interim Hospice for their exceptional service and support. The family is at the home, 132 Henson Street, Hillbrook Forest.
