David Threadgill

July 22, 1983 — January 4, 2018

David Travis Threadgill, Dave to some, died by his own hand on Thursday, January 4, 2018 in Miami Beach, Florida. David had the love and respect of his family and so many friends, including his beloved nieces and nephews with whom he shared a mutual adoration. Sadly, on that winter day, David could not feel that love and friendship, as he struggled with the darkness in his own mind, something he kept well hidden. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local humane society. David was a lover of all animals, especially his two pups - Ace and Stella. More importantly, be open with one another; share your joys and your sadness, your triumphs and your struggles, your passions and your fears. Be truly present and not just superficially there in the lives of those around you. Be kind and patient and love one another. And when that love just isn't enough to reach through someone's darkness, then double down your efforts in honor of that person. Love more, laugh more, talk more, pray more, live more! Joy and sadness, hope and friendship, grief and acceptance, grace and forgiveness, strength and vulnerability, laughter and tears, gratitude and compassion - when we walk through these together we can find the beginning of healing. May all of us who loved David LIVE this out in all that we say, all that we think, and all that we do. Remember the good times with David - his gorgeous face, his snarky wit, his GQ suaveness, his tender hearted kindness for those he loved, and his carefree playfulness. In this way we shine a light onto depression that may help others while we hold David's memory ardently in our hearts forever. David was 34 years old and is survived by his mother, Judy Messer; his sister, Christie Groff (Nathan); his brother Eddie Threadgill; nieces, Hope and Ella Groff; nephews, Jackson and Mitchell Groff - all of Jacksonville, Florida; and niece, Amanda Kovach (Jake) and great-nephew, Lemuel Kovach of Lancaster, SC and a whole bunch of loving friends from all over the Carolinas, Florida, and elsewhere. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Sunday, January 14, 2018, in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307, by The Reverend Mitch Huling. All are welcome. Close friends and family are invited to a reception following the services at the home of family friends, the Trents.
