Catherine Hoppes

Cathy L. McCarter Hoppes, 78, of Boiling Springs, SC, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 30, 2018, at her home. Born June 12, 1940, in Greer, SC, she was the daughter of the late J.C. McCarter and Frances Westmoreland McCarter. Mrs. Hoppes loved her pastor and church staff at First Baptist North Spartanburg where she was an active member and served for 25+ years as chairperson and coordinator for decorating the Twin Living Christmas Trees and the church at Christmas. In recent years she also served as a greeter/usher in the front sanctuary. Her family and church were the center of her world. She was formerly employed with J. P. Stevens. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Bruce Michael Hoppes; children, Edward Keith Hoppes (Devon) of Boiling Springs, SC and Kimberly Faye Yates (Michael) of Forest City, NC; grandchildren, Peyton Hoppes (Lynsey) of Taylors, SC, Jenson Hoppes of Clemson, SC, and Marisa Cook of Columbia, SC; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Dan Ayers, Frank Ayers, James McCarter, Joan Schell, Peggy Loftis, and Margie Ellsworth. Visitation will be 1:00-2:45 PM Saturday, September 1, 2018, at First Baptist North Spartanburg, 8740 Asheville Hwy, Spartanburg, SC 29316 with funeral services following at 3:00 PM, conducted by The Rev. Dr. Michael S. Hamlet. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Christian Academy, 8740 Asheville Hwy, Boiling Springs, SC 29316.
