Bobby Dotson

Bobby J. Dotson, 82, of Boiling Springs, SC, died Saturday, January 23, 2021, while having lunch in Spartanburg. His parents were Loman Bryan and Nancy Luella Byars Dotson of Benton, KY. Bob joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 and served as a jet engine mechanic instructor in Ramstein, Germany, in the 526th Fighter Air Squadron. In 1961 he married Phyllis Whitmer, and they moved to Church Hill, TN, where he worked eleven years for American Saint-Gobain in the computer division. In 1972 they moved to Boiling Springs where he worked for Hoechst Fibers/Hoechst Celanese until retiring at 59. He was a computer systems analyst for process control. Bob was a member of Second Presbyterian Church and had served as Deacon. He loved his sons and grandson, fishing on the lake and working on car engines. He also enjoyed reading, working puzzles, and watching WWII movies. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis Whitmer Dotson; two sons, Jeffrey (Karen) of Boiling Springs and Robert of New Orleans, LA; one grandson, Justin; ten nieces and nephews; and two sisters, Patricia Bradford (Gerald) of Paducah, KY, and Nancy Duren (George) of Benton, KY. His sister, Betty Inman (Elvis) died in 2011, and his brother, Gary (Margaret) died in 2014. In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests you share a gift of food with the ones you love the most or put flowers on the grave of someone you have lost. Thanks go to the caregivers who helped care for him in his last years, to the dedicated local EMS professionals, and to the kind souls who work for Mobile Meals of Spartanburg.
