Bessie Seay Cecil, 93, of Spartanburg passed away on Friday, September 8, 2017, at her home. Born in Spartanburg on June 1, 1924, she was the youngest of six children of the late Corrie Waters Seay and Charlie Gudger Seay. She was married for 70 years to the late David William (Bill) Cecil, Sr. and was also predeceased by a daughter, Gay Cecil Frick. A homemaker and member of First Presbyterian Church, Bess loved to travel, to work her daily crossword puzzles, and was also an avid reader. She loved watching football, especially her Clemson Tigers. Her entire life centered around her family and her happiest moments were times spent at Pawleys Island surrounded by all of her family. Survivors include three sons, David William Cecil, II (Anne), Charles Campbell Cecil (Suzanne) and Robert Cooper Cecil (Holly), all of Spartanburg, SC; one daughter, Merry Anne Cecil Gaddy (Clay) of Summerville, SC; and son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Edwin Frick (Jeanie) of Spartanburg, SC. Additionally, she leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren who will strive to live up to the standards of their beloved Nannie. The family would like to thank four very special ladies who cared for Bess in the home: Mary Hill-Black, Carol Ferguson, and Shirley Knight, along with Juanita Corbett who also helped in past years.
