Marshall Owens

October 19, 1925 — September 19, 2017

Marshall Howard Owens, 91, of Boiling Springs, SC, went to his eternal rest Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at home surrounded with family and friends. Born October 19, 1925 in Holly Springs, SC, Marshall was the son of the late William Jackson and Eliza Jane Blackwell Owens. He was the loving husband of Virginia Ballew Owens for 69 years. A graduate of Holly Springs High School, Marshall attended Georgia Tech and was a former masonry instructor at Spartanburg Tech. A U. S. Navy veteran, he served on the USS Missouri and was a self-employed masonry-building contractor. He was a member of Boiling Springs First Baptist Church since 1949 where he served as a deacon until age 86, Sunday School Adult teacher, was a former member of the choir and served on several committees. Marshall helped build 25 churches in Brazil, served as assistant Fire Chief in Boiling Springs for many years and was a charter member of the first Lions Club in Boiling Springs. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are sons, William Barry Owens of Greenville, SC and Richard Howard Owens (Michele) of Boiling Springs, SC. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Kerise (Jason), Liza (Wayne), Adam (Julie), Graham, Lindsay, Sarah, Nicholas, Paul (Heather); and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thursey Owens Gregg of Lyman, SC and Dorothy Owens Ballew of Columbia, SC; as well as numerous special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Vickie Owens Kirby and son, Michael Owens; as well as six brothers, John, Horace, Hulon, Earl, Grady and Clyde Owens; and four sisters, Joyce Owens Hall, Ailene Owens, Edna Owens and Alma Owens Revan. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Boiling Springs First Baptist Church, by the Rev. Dr. Hank Williams and the Rev. Bobby Lindsey. Visitation will follow in the church sanctuary. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boiling Springs First Baptist Church Building Fund, 3600 Boiling Springs Road, Boiling Springs, SC 29316; or Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
