Kay Karegeannes Reed, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, died Wednesday, December 13, 2017, surrounded by her children and Windsor House friends. Born March 4, 1928, in Gaffney, SC, she was the daughter of the late George and Katherine Melehes Karegeannes. A member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, Kay received her Master's Degree in Social Work from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. She was a skilled, compassionate, patient-centered medical and psychiatric social worker having worked in St. Louis, MO, Philadelphia, PA, and Washington DC. Survivors include her children, Nancy K. Reed (James) of Cotopaxi, CO and George K. Reed of Moore, SC; grandchildren, Richard Reed, Jon Reed, Paul Reed, Myriah Reed, Adam Reed, Jackson Potter, and Aimee Potter; great-grandchildren, Michael James Reed, Ashton George Reed, and Phoebe Simone Cornell; sisters, Voula Singer (Allen) of Spartanburg, SC, Venetta Berenz (Thomas) of Sunset, SC, and Ethel Tortorice (Charles) of Moore, SC; and brother, Harry Karegeannes (Virginia) of Colleyville, TX. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a son, Paul K. Reed III; and brothers, Peter, Gus, and John Karegeannes. A graveside service will be conducted in the spring of 2018 in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg, SC.
