Gwendolyn Antley Christopher, 89, of Spartanburg, SC, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, May 21, 2018, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born September 13, 1928, in Phenix City, AL, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Martha Antley. Mrs. Christopher was a 1947 graduate of Baker High School, Columbus, GA and later attended Truman and Smith Institute. Her marriage to the late Colonel Harry Christopher, United States Army (Ret.), began a partnership of service in the United States Army that spanned three decades (1956-1986). Along with being an American Red Cross Volunteer for many years, Gwen was active in the various social and community activities that were an essential part of Army life. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Ann Christopher of Moore, SC; her grandchildren, David Christopher (Aliece), Kimberly Christopher, John Christopher, and Michael Christopher; and great-grandson, Caleb Christopher. She was predeceased by her brother, Chester Antley, Jr. Graveside services will be conducted at 12:00 noon Friday, May 25, 2018, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Rd., Columbia, SC 29229, by The Rev. Andy Case. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, PO Box 37839, Boone, IA 50037-0839.
