Edwin "Ned" Ruthven Pennebaker passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2018 in Spartanburg. Ned was born July 3, 1920, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Effie DuBose Pennebaker and Edwin R. Pennebaker, Sr. Later, he moved to Spartanburg, where he met and married his wife of 62 years, Shirley Siddall Pennebaker. Ned was a proud veteran, having served as crew chief and flight engineer in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II. He was the former owner and President of the Siddall Chemical Company. He also served his community as little league football coach and as President of the Spartanburg Sertoma Club where he was recognized as "Distinguished Club President" by Sertoma International. Ned was an avid golfer and hosted his foursome for three days of golf at Litchfield Beach for thirty consecutive years. He treasured his family and friends, loved olives and big band music. He was a great storyteller, a practical joker through and through; he loved nothing more than to make people laugh. His sense of humor and cheerful disposition will be remembered and missed. He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sons, Richard Pennebaker of Spartanburg, SC, and Eddie Pennebaker (Julie) of Daufuskie Island, SC; three grandsons, Andrew of Madison, WI, Joe of Atlanta, GA and Evan of Charleston, SC, and granddaughter Chris of Denver, CO.
