Frances Beverly Carlisle Wootten Judy, 91, of St. Louis, MO, formerly of Spartanburg, SC, died Sunday, February 7, 2016, at St. Andrews Assisted Living, Bridgeton, MO. Born November 6, 1924, in Spartanburg, SC, she was the daughter of the late John Stanley and Frances Mae Cole Carlisle, granddaughter of the late Charles Henry Carlisle, one of the founders of Converse College and Bethel Methodist Church, and widow of her first husband, Elbert McGhee Wootten, and second husband, Perry McSwain Judy. Beverly was a graduate of Winthrop University Class of 1946 where she received her Bachelors Degree. She retired from Case Brothers Music Store, was a piano teacher, organist, accompanist, and teacher at the SC School for the Deaf and Blind as well as a secretary for The Shepherd's Center and volunteer with Meals On Wheels. Among her many accomplishments, she was a member of the Spartanburg Philharmonic Music Club and gave a Senior High School recital as a student of Mrs. Mary Bobo Hughston. She had many leadership roles as a student at Winthrop, received the honor of being selected to appear in the 1945-1946 edition of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges", and received the Mary Mildred Sullivan highest honor award upon graduating Winthrop. She was also the first President of Parents Without Partners in Spartanburg, SC, was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC, a church youth leader at St. John's Methodist Church in Anderson, SC, accompanist for voice teacher Mr. Hoffman in Atlanta, GA, accompanist for several musicals in Atlanta, GA, organist in Atlanta, as well as her home church Bethel United Methodist. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother always living a life of service to others and sacrificial love for her Savior Jesus Christ as well as for her family, survivors include her daughters, Nancy Wootten Brown and husband Steven Clyde Brown of Charlotte, NC, Diane Frances Wootten Mathias and husband Robert Joe Mathias of Florissant, MO; son, Ralph Carlisle Wootten and wife Paula Raye Wootten of Kings Mountain, NC; 10 grandchildren, Joshua Robert Mathias (Laura Anne Mathias), Laura Ashley Mathias, Katie Frances Theriault (Neil Richard Theriault), Ryan Jonathan Mathias (Christy Ann Mathias), Patrick Steven Brown (Kathryn Trent Brown), Russell Hugh Brown (Caylene Birnie Brown), Benjamin Carlisle Brown (Sarah Elaine Brown), Preston Wootten, Nicholas Wootten, and Paul Wootten; 13 great-grandchildren, Samson Tyler Mathias, Mark David Mathias, and Brooke Mathias (due March 14, 2016), Mackenzie Frances Theriault, Laila Rae Theriault, Luke Robert Theriault, Isaiah Jonathan Mathias, Elijah Paul Mathias, Ezekiel Trent Brown, Zipporah Ruth Anne Brown, Winston Hugh Brown, Jackson Carlisle Brown, and Luthien Brown (due April 3, 2016); stepchildren, Jill Judy Plexico and husband Keith, Perry McSwain Judy II and wife Jill, and Jan Judy Witherspoon, all of Spartanburg, SC; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Oren Judy, Peggy Smith Carlisle, and Walter Miller Brice III and his wife Delores, all of Spartanburg, SC. She was predeceased by a brother, John Stanley Carlisle, Jr.; and sister, Mabel Carlisle Brice. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, February 14, 2016, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 245 S. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306, by the Rev. David Nichols and the Rev. Phillip Dodd. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307. To assist the music program since Beverly was their pianist for many years, memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church Special Education Dept., 245 South Church Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
