Survivors of Suicide Spartanburg
The local chapter of Survivors of Suicide (SOS)is a non-denominational support group for those who have lost someone to suicide. The group is open to the public and there are no dues or fees involved. It is sponsored by The J. F. Floyd Mortuary and is facilitated by Rev. Wayne F. Hyatt, a Pastor and licensed Marital and Family Therapist. They meet at 7:00 pm on the second Monday of the month at Morningside Baptist Church (897 South Pine Street, Spartanburg) and on the fourth Monday of the month at Saint Matthews Episcopal Church (101 St. Matthews Lane, across from Barnes & Noble, Room 109). Rev. Hyatt can be reached at 583-1010.
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF SOS?
The purpose of the group is to offer comfort, friendship and support to those who have lost loved ones to suicide; to provide programs, services, and outreach to families, friends, and the community; to network and form coalitions with public services that often deal with suicide.
HOW DOES SOS HELP?
The group promotes an accepting atmosphere where one can openly express feelings. Members work toward developing a positive resolution of the grief experience and the strengthening of emotional health. Members are invited to share their feelings or may simply listen.
HOW CAN I JOIN THE GROUP?
You can join by calling Reverend Hyatt's office at (864) 583-1010. He can answer any other questions you may have and verify the next meeting date. The only requirement is that at some point in your life a family member, relative or friend has been lost to suicide.
