CREMATION - YOUR
CHOICE
Celebrating
Life and Love
"We grieve because
someone lived and their life was worth remembering. Every
culture known to humankind has devised rituals and ceremonies to
deal with the troubling facts of mortality: that love hurts; that a
death in the family, like a birth, should be observed; and that
grief is the price paid for that love."
People today are
expressing an ever increasing interest in cremation.
Cremation is a process of preparing the body for its final
disposition, be it burial, entombment, scattering
or some combination of these. It is not
however, an alternative to a funeral service, celebration or the
final disposition for your loved one. So, it makes no
difference if cremation is your preference for preparation,
the healing benefits of a public Gathering and Service (with or
without the Body present) can still comfort and support you in your
time of grief. Grief therapists tell us this and we know this
from our own experience with the families we serve.
Please know, that whatever your choice, we treat cremated
remains with the proper dignity and respect due
them.
In addition, an important component of a decision
to be cremated is to know who owns and operates the crematory. At
The J. F. Floyd Mortuary, we have owned and operated our crematory
since 1980. Operated as a separate facility, Piedmont Crematory is
centrally located in the Fort Prince community of Spartanburg. It
is managed by Robin Caldwell, who received S.C. State certification
as a Crematory Operator in 1994. As a consequence, your loved
one never really leaves our care.
In 2010, a new human retort was purchased and the
original retort was rebuilt and permitted for pets. This
business will be operated by Robin Caldwell as well, under the
name of Floyd's Pet
Passages.
Both facilities are operated according to the
same high standards as are expected at The J.F. Floyd Mortuary -
where we "Take care of all of your loved
ones".
Personalization
We can help you personalize the service
when you want to celebrate the life of your loved one. Its
what we do.
We work directly with you and your family to
learn about your loved one, your family's beliefs and offer ideas
designed to deepen the meaning of your tribute. The places and
things associated with our lives often play an important part - we
understand the many ways the value of your loved one's life can be
communicated throughout the funeral service. A valuable aspect of
funerals is their individuality. Whether a ceremony is elaborate or
simple, funerals can be individualized to reflect the life of the
deceased and to hold personal meaning for family and friends. A
service may reflect one's religious beliefs as a reaffirmation of
faith in a greater life beyond this world. Some families choose to
reflect upon the occupation or hobbies of the deceased and some
choose to center the service around an ethnic background or a
social affiliation. A service can be both religious and
celebratory. Grief professionals believe that you must first
accept and mourn your loss before you can truly celebrate the
life. A well designed service will do that for you.
We believe it is a
privilege to serve you and will help you design and arrange a
service and/or celebration that reflects the life that was lived.
We are available to help you whenever that need
arises.
